Call for papers: Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change
Editorial team:
Walter Leal Filho, Kambam Boxen, Francis Brearley, Newton Matandirotya, Mmaduabuchukwu Mkpado and João Leitão.
Agriculture is one of the sectors most directly affected by climate change, with shifting weather patterns, increased frequency of extreme events, and changing pest and disease dynamics posing significant risks to food security. With a growing global population, achieving food security is more critical than ever. The book will examine how climate change threatens production and food distribution systems, and explore strategies to ensure access to nutritious food for all, particularly in vulnerable populations.
Advances in technology and scientific research offer a significant potential
for adapting agriculture to climate change. There is a perceived need for innovations such as climate-resilient crops, precision agriculture, and data-driven farming practices that can help farmers mitigate climate risks.
Also, effective policy frameworks and economic incentives are important for supporting farmers in adapting to climate change.
It is against this background that the book “Climate Change and Agriculture” is being produced. It seeks to explore the intricate relationship between climate change and agricultural practices, emphasising the urgent need to adapt and innovate in response to the changing climate.
This book aims to explore innovative strategies and practices for adapting agricultural systems to the challenges posed by climate change. It will also explore the role of government policies, international cooperation, and financial mechanisms in promoting adaptive and sustainable agricultural practices.
We are now seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified colleagues, who may wish to submit their work to this book. Papers may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- Climate-smart agricultural practices
- Crop resilience and genetic diversity
- Water management and irrigation strategies under changing climates
- Agroecological approaches and sustainable land use
- Policy frameworks and economic incentives for adaptation
- Case studies of successful adaptation strategies in various regions
- The role of technology and innovation in adapting agriculture
- Indigenous and traditional knowledge for adapting to climate change
- Impacts of climate change on food security and nutrition Artificial
- Intelligence applications in management of climate risks in agriculture
Further themes may be added, please consult the editorial team to discuss your specific inputs.
The book will be published by Springer Nature, as part of the “Climate Change Management Series”. This is, with 56 books to date, the world´s leading peer-reviewed book series on matters related to climate change: https://www.springer.com/series/8740.
